SASA Setton expands its work and reaches out into the community beyond the hospitals

Building a World" Literacy Program"

At SASA Setton, we believe that words and stories have a unique power to strengthen a child's inner world

Our literacy program, "Building a World," offers an educational journey that unfolds over a full school year and is designed especially for second- and third-grade students in the community and in the educational centers within hospitals. The program, written by Prof. Shai Rudin, is based on current research in the field of language and literature instruction, and provides every participating student with a set of ten high-quality hardcover books and a dedicated activity workbook.

By fostering emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and social dialogue around the texts, we aim to deepen communication within the classroom and enable every child to become acquainted with their inner world and to express it with confidence. The program currently operates in elementary schools in the northern communities — Kiryat Shmona, Tiberias, and Shlomi — as well as at the "Asif" school at Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh), with close support from the educational teams and the National Service volunteers. In addition, we make a point of incorporating moving encounters with authors, which turn reading from a passive experience into a living and inspiring meeting that develops critical thinking and creativity.
